Our air conditioner occasionally blows a fuse. No idea what to do, and how much money to do?
It does not happen often, but now and then, right as the air conditioner tries to kick on, it will blow a fuse, and I'll have to go to the fusebox to reset the special security. So it's fine, and the air conditioner works, no problem. This does not happen very often, but it is annoying. Anyone have a problem like this before, and no idea of what to do and what the cost of something like this should be an electrician? Thank you.
When an a / c first starts up, it uses a higher amp make initiating a compressor (this is called inrush). If it is placed in a 120 V socket then a / ci addition to anything else on that circuit other connectors lights, etc put too much amp draw on that circuit. Older models tend to have more pull than later. An electrician can probe the circuit to see how much draw is on. If it is within limits, he can then check to see if the A / C is currently an abnormal amount of amps on startup. A / C's must be on a circuit all by itself for inrush reason, so if possible have electrician run a dedicated 20 amp circuit for a / c, will reduce the problem. If it is not possible, so try to reduce drag on the circuit from other places.
